Hi, I am Nick Montejos, I am currently 18 years old and I am a first year student at Centre College. I was raised in Hopkinsville, KY but I am originally from Lima, Peru. I graduated from Hopkinsville High School and was involved with the swim team, band, and Red Cross. I swam from middle school through high school. I did not continue with it in college, but use it as means of exercise. In college I am a Bonner Scholar, which is a community service foundation. I also volunteer at the humane society and at a ESL after school program.
I first heard about bike and build through a meeting where we were looking at people’s summers of service. A former rider gave her presentation about her summer of service and she disused her experience with bike and build. Since then I have been obsessed and completely motivated to do this. During this summer I cycled a bit, but it was on an old bike that was slightly rusted. Defenitly not the best exercising experince.
I believe bike and build is one of the best ways to gain support for affordable housing. Through the fundraising, a great amount of awareness will be gained. The fundraising will gain support for affordable housing because of the amount of money that must be raised. Bike and Build is a great non profit orgainzation that lets young people raise awaranes for an amazing cause.
I know this summer is going to be tough but I'm up for the challenge. I love to have a good time, but also volunteer and change the world around me. I am ready to bike across the country and help raise awareness for Affordable Housing. Affordable housing affects many people, and sometimes we take what we have for granted. That is why I want to do this program, for a life changing experience and to help others out.
Finally, I also want to complete this adventure because I've always wanted to travel across the country. I have always dreamt of driving across the country, and when I heard about this opportunity I jumped on board. I am also planning on filming my process. I am going to start filming my training, fundraising and eventually the ride. So, if I end up in your group I will probably be filming along the way. There are so many things about bike and build that excite me. I am ready to get on my bike and go!
