Hey Guys!

My name is Jacob Richardson and I will be graduating from Old Dominion University this spring here in Norfolk Virginia, my beloved hometown. I am a rider from CUS11 which was by far the best summer of my life. Even during the trip I knew I wanted to give back to this wonderful organization and what better way than to help lead a trip? I learned so much about myself, other people, the cause, and this country that I could not help but comeback. It takes a very special person to commit so much time and effort for a cause which leaves you with truly remarkable people.

A little about myself, I love the sport of rowing. This will be my 8th year rowing and I have met some of the most important people of my life in this sport. There is nothing quite like rowing on a river as the sun comes up. I am an Economics and Finance major and plan to join the navy after this summer. Norfolk is where I was born and raised. My trip last summer was the first real adventure for me so I’m excited to again have the opportunity to see the country by bike. Also I love to bike around town. The simplicity and beauty of riding a bike is what I enjoy most about getting in the saddle.

Besides all the great things you will see, amazing people you will meet, and crazy adventures you will have, you will make an impact on someone’s life. Leaving a build site after a hard day’s work and seeing the walls you help put up is an extremely rewarding feeling. This organization truly empowers young people in this cause. Towards the end of the summer the riders actually get to decide what affordable housing organizations get funding. Most of them you will work with throughout the summer so you can meet the families and know where all the fundraising is going.

I am beyond excited to be with all of you on this epic journey we call Bike & Build. To have the opportunity to share this with you all is more than I could ever ask for. It will be fun, challenging, and most importantly rewarding. As they say.. there are no bad days on Bike & Build just some are harder than others. If any of you have any questions please do not hesitate to call, I will help any way I can. You must know one thing… and that is we are going to have the summer of a lifetime!!
