Hey guys! My name is Jacqui and Im from East Greenwich, Rhode Island but Im living in Boston right now, about to start my last semester at Boston University. Im studying biology with a concentration in neuroscience and a minor in psychology and do plan on attending med school (a question that I am asked almost daily now), but not quite yet. I decided that first I want to explore, and Ive traveled a bit in the past (England, France, Holland, Peru, Australia, New Zealand) but I have yet to visit most states in my own country! Which I find quite odd although I did go to Texas for the first time a few months ago for ACL and liked it but at the same time was in shock when I heard people talking about their guns (Im not sure Ive ever actually seen a gun, nor do I want to). But I guess thats what my life has always been about, growing up in New England and living in the same house my whole life. Which is why I want to venture across the country, and no better way to do that than on a bike more environmentally friendly and just plain awesome!
So I am a full time student but I still keep up on other things from time to time, my favorite pastime being dancing. Ive taken ballet since I could walk and starting just a few years ago I learned hip hop, which although on the other end of the spectrum in terms of dance, is actually really fun. Along with pick up games of floor hockey and broomball, I manage to stay pretty active and although this trip will require some major work on my fitness, Im prepared to do it all. Another favorite pastime, which Im sure any other Bostonian can second this, is the Red Sox, which I have come to know and love via sleeping out overnight on the street in front of Fenway to get tickets to playoff games. So I am pretty hardcore and determined about things I really care about.
I heard about this opportunity through the BU chapter of Habitat for Humanity, which I have been involved with for a few years now, and decided without a doubt that this is what I wanted to do with my summer. Most of the build trips that Ive been involved with have been local, with the exception of my week spent in North Carolina for alternative spring break, and so Im super excited to stop at build sites along the way and help out all across the country! Cant wait to meet everyone, and good luck fundraising!
